Water Valley Celtic Folk Festival is excited about the return of the Celtic trio Seancara.  Barb, Chris, and Jay team up to provide very exciting Celtic Music with their own unique twist.  The simple instrumentations bring forth reinvented dramatic rhythms enforced with tremendous energy.”  Dave Settles, Water Valley Celtic Folk Festival

Seancara ( "Old Friends" in Olde Irish) is a trio formed by old friends to explore new approaches to traditional and contemporary Celtic music. Former ClanTerra founders Chris Daniels and Barbara Rose Olorenshaw have teamed up with Chris’s son Jay to create a unique sound particularly suited for concert and event performance. Seancara's broad repertoire ranges from driving jigs and reels to haunting aires and ballads, and includes innovative approaches to favourite traditional pieces. With ClanTerra, Barb and Chris toured North America and the UK, including two summers at the Canadian Pavillion at Disney's Epcot Center in Florida.

They also played The Calgary Folk Festival, Canmore Folk Festival, Yellowknife's Folk on the Rocks, and a variety of folk clubs across Canada . The members of Seancara are no strangers to festival and concert performance and now as a trio continue their love for Celtic music. Barb’s beautiful vocals and fiddle combines with Jay’s precise and intricate guitar work, Chris’s unusually driving bodhrán style, and the occasional guest instrument, to create an exciting yet intimate performance. Their long time relationship as friends and family provides a backdrop for the easy camaraderie between the band members and the audience as they compliment their musical skills with light banter and stories from their travels. A Seancara performance is old friends sharing music and stories hoping to make new friends, guaranteeing a memorable event for all ages.

After  some ’sneak preview’ appearances at The Jack Singer Concert Hall (Wild Rosin Concert), The Water Valley Celtic Folk Festival, and the Cochrane Canada Day Celebrations, they took an 8 month break while Barb, who had just finished her degree in Music Education, travelled to Thailand to teach music and English.  With Barb’s return in Spring of 2007 they eagerly picked up where they left off by once again appearing at the Water Valley Celtic Folk Festival and a number of other small concert venues. They are currently working on an upcoming CD, putting together the promo that illustrates the variety of events that Seancara is suited for, and developing new music and programs for both concert and school shows. Please contact us if you feel we suit any event you are involved in.
